How to install Simple Voice Chat

Simple Voice Chat is a plugin that adds proximity-based voice chat to your Minecraft server. Players who are near each other in-game can hear and talk to each other in real time, without needing any external app like Discord.

Simple Voice Chat requires a plugin-compatible server such as Paper, Spigot, or Purpur. It is not compatible with Vanilla, Forge, Fabric, or NeoForge servers.

Step 1

Voice chat runs on a separate port from the game. Before installing the plugin, go to the Network section in the left sidebar and create a new port allocation by clicking Create Allocation. Take note of the port number assigned โ€” you will need it in the next step.

For more details, see the guide on how to open a port.

Step 2

Go to the Templates section in the left sidebar. Under Plugin Setups, click on Simple Voice Chat (Plugin) to open its configuration panel on the right.

Step 3

In the Voice Chat Port dropdown, select the port you allocated in Step 1. Then click Install Template.

Step 4

A confirmation modal will appear warning that this may overwrite existing files. Click Yes, Install to proceed.

Step 5

A green notification will confirm the template was installed successfully. Restart your server from the Console tab. Once online, you should see a line in the console similar to:

[voicechat] Voice chat server started at 0.0.0.0:XXXX

This confirms the voice chat server is running on the correct port.

Additional Notes:

  • Players must install the Simple Voice Chat mod on their Minecraft client to use in-game voice chat. They can download it from Modrinth (opens in a new tab) or CurseForge (opens in a new tab).
  • The voice chat port is handled automatically by the mod โ€” players do not need to enter it manually.
  • Voice chat is proximity-based by default, meaning players can only hear others who are nearby in-game.

โœ… That's it! Your server now has proximity voice chat enabled. If you have any problems, contact us via Discord (opens in a new tab) so we can help you.
