How to Upload Worlds to Your Project Zomboid Server
This guide will explain how to transfer your local world to your dedicated server.
Step 1: Locate Your Local Multiplayer World
First, you need to locate your world save folder on your PC's Zomboid directory.
Windows: C:\Users\<username>\Zomboid\
Linux: ~/Zomboid/
Once you've found the folder, navigate to /Zomboid/Saves/Multiplayer. This folder contains all of your client-side player information and any locally hosted worlds that have been created.

The name of your world folder will match your chosen Server Name (which is servertest by default).

Step 2: Compress the World Folder
To make the upload faster, you need to compress (zip) the entire world folder. We recommend using 7-Zip (opens in a new tab), which is free and easy to use.
Right-click on your world folder and select 7-Zip > Add to archive (or your preferred compression tool).
Note: Compressing the files will significantly reduce upload time to your server.
Step 3: Upload and Extract Your World
Head to your Game Panel and access your Project Zomboid server. To the left of the panel, click on File Manager.
Navigate to the /.caches/Saves/Multiplayer folder.

Important: You may need to start your server at least once for these folders to be created.
Upload your world zip file by dragging and dropping it into the File Manager or clicking the Upload button.
Once the upload is complete, right-click on the zip file and select Decompress to extract the world folder.

Step 4: Configure Server Settings
To have the server load your newly uploaded world, you need to specify the folder name in the server configuration.
In the Game Panel, click on Startup in the left sidebar.
Locate the Server Name field and enter the exact name of your world folder.

Important: The name must match exactly (case-sensitive).
Click Save and you can now start your server with your custom world!
โ That's it! Your custom Project Zomboid world is now running on your dedicated server. If you have any problems, contact us via Discord (opens in a new tab) so we can help you.
